Fly Fishing Giveaway | March

Filed under Contest News, Tips & More

So you have probably gathered that we have are having a little fly tying contest. Here’s the scoop… we want to feature the flies of some ‘undiscovered’ talent in our 2011 full color catalog. Our good friends over at Rainy’s Flies (the company who does flies for Kreh, Clouser, Whitlock, Galloup and more) will be taking them to production for us as well.

Not only that but the winners will pick up some cool stuff from companies like Renzetti, Fishpond and more (stay tuned for more on the prizes).

So take a look around the site and let us know what you think. To enter this month’s giveaway, just give us some kind of feedback. Comments, questions, suggestions, the good, the bad, the ugly… we want it all. So just scroll down and comment to let us know what you think.

Remember, this contest is for you- the normal guy, so if you have a pattern, we would LOVE to see it and if you can think of a way we can make it better, we want to know! We will choose a random comment at the end of March and award the Renzetti Traveller.

Good luck and we hope to see one of your patterns in the contest!

Evan

Nice vise! I’d love to try one.

  2. Junior says:

I already have one and love it. I could use a 2nd one so I don’t take mine down when I do travel, which is a lot. These are fantastic vises if any is shopping for one.

  3. Rene de Guzman says:

I can use one of those. Nice prize.

  4. not that Mike Myers says:

I would love to try tying with a rotary vise. I love my current vise but all the fly tiers at the recent shows are using rotary vises and they make it look much easier than tying with a static vise. Except for Rim Chung who uses an old vise with hemostats straped to the back of it! He said repeatedly that it gives him a lot more room to work on his RSII’s. I can only hope to invent a fly that’s even fractionally as successful as the RSII.

By the way, this site is a great idea and will hopefully spawn more ideas.

  5. Steve says:

I would love to try one of those vises!

  6. Rich Strolis says:

What better than a second vise to have my two little girls practice their tying skills with daddy…… Wishful thinking as they are only 2 and 1 month old….

  7. Robert Bruch says:

I sure would love to have a new vice like this. But times are very hard right now. So i’m stuck with the same vice i had since i was 15. If you help me out i promise it will be well taken care of.

  8. isaac says:

great to see another maninstream fly tying contest up and going—I just got into flytying and was able to get a pattern posted in the Fly Tying and Fishing Journal just before they decided to stop judging patterns. hope to maybe get one posted here someday

  9. Tracey says:

  10. Matthew Russell says:

I think the fly contest is a great idea. I will send some patterns soon.

  11. Craig Smith says:

I have had an older Traveller for 13 years. Its been fantastic. An upgrade to the current lever model would be even better.

  12. Duane says:

Never won anythign before….this would be a great time to stsrt! If only a new rotary vise would improve my tying. Thanks for the give-away, and “good luck” to me.

  13. Fishkamp says:

  14. Kevin Bartley says:

Just one more item I need.

  15. John Hepburn says:

If I wait for my Thompson vyce to wear out I will never get to replace it. Tying on a Renzetti would make a nice change.

  16. Rich Pribyl says:

Sweet vice! And excellent website. I can just imagine how many new patterns I could come up with if I was tying with two vices at the same time!

  17. WOULD LOVE TO UPGRADE MY VISE. I SPEND MY EVENINGS TYING WHILE I WATCH TV. LOOKS PERFECT.

  18. Marion says:

Nice vice. Nice way to give back to your customers.

  19. Ralph Long says:

What a perfect idea to burn off the winters shack-nasties. Looks like a great project. Thanks for the opportunity!

  20. Kelly Lovelady says:

Incredible vise. This will certainly make someone’s day! If that doesn’t make you happy, nothing will. :-)

    Airon

  24. David says:

I would like to trade in my Thompson for the Renzetti and hope my entry is chosen,

  25. Rob Burlingame says:

The contest is an awesome idea, especially since I know a lot of folks with “secret” flies created just for one area. This is a fantastic forum to recognize the amatuer (but talented) tiers out there! I love the e-mail notifications and enjoy seeing the variety of featured flies on the site. I plan to put a couple of my own new creations up after I finish the “testing” phase on the water!

One idea I would like to see added is a featured material section to help highlight some of the new and cool products out there and give tips on tying with it. Maybe once every couple weeks or so the material could be changed. I always like to try new things.

The vice giveaway is great too…i tie on a Renzetti Traveler and have for years…it has a nice patina on it from many trips down the beach! Would love to have another one that I could keep at home and together!

  26. Jeff Burnap says:

I love this site. I can’t wait untill the next email to see the new patters people are posting. I have already tied some of the patterns to try in my area.Keep them comming all you tiers!! Would love to have that Renzetti Vice it will make things alot easer for anyone.

  27. Mike says:

I always love free stuff. New vise?…OK!

  28. double d says:

    Great site!

  29. John C says:

The site is great. My two boys, 9 and 11, are learning to tie and are enjoying the site too.

  30. Robert Bruch says:

I don’t know what i could say. That would convince you to give me the Vise. But Mr. i really want it.

  31. Robert Bruch says:

Mr.Mr. I want some Free stuff.

  32. Tom Poloski says:

The site looks great. Will have to follow all the submissions for flies. Always looking for that new secret weapon. The Renzetti vice has been on my “wish list” for some time now. But it’s always so difficult.
I always manage to find a sale on a rod, reel or material thats just to good to pass up. I’m sure you all know the drill. Keep up the good work. Tight Lines.

  33. Robert Bruch says:

Mr. Mr. I still want that vise!!!

  34. Dan Bowen says:

Gentlemen – here’s my input – I want to submit some patterns but your web site does not make this process immediately clear. I click on the links for the contest and the only active links in the article take me to the portion of the site that offers to give away a vice for people submitting comments on the web site. What is not there is a clearly identified link to the actual process I need to follow to submit my patterns. It is probably on the site somewhere and I’ll go look again, buit after going back and forth a few times on what is easy to find on the contest, I’m no closer…

  35. justin dodge says:

i am new to fly tying but a rotary vise would be really cool. my old vise broke so i just bought a new one but a rotary vise would make it easiers if i was gonna make more than one type of fly at a time. i could just keep going and get it done faster. great prize.

  36. Dean Myers says:

This is a great structured site. Only thing is, is there a way to see what flies a specific person has submitted?

  37. Ian says:

Nice vise, great site, keep up the good work!

  38. Melanie Sprinkle says:

Nice site and good looking vise.

  39. Kendall Parman says:

I need to upgrade my vise and this would be the perfect one to do it with.
    Thanks

  40. Mitch R. says:

Nice vise and a good job on the site

  41. Gary Duback says:

love to have a Renzetti for next winter
